WHAT IS PERLANE?

Perlane is the newest member of the Restylane family of fillers. Perlane is primarily the same product as Restylane, that is, a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel. Perlane filler differs in that it contains a larger gel particle and concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this increased concentration, Perlane is better suited for larger, deeper folds while Restylane works nicely for smaller or moderately deep wrinkles or as maintenance for previous Perlane injections. Perlane is not permanent and is broken down in the body, however due to its concentration, its'effects last a little longer than Restylane and its effects may last 4 to 8 months depending on the application.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?

Perlane injections can be used to improve the contour of facial skin, decrease unsightly wrinkles and reduce lines around the nose, folds, scars, and other facial skin depressions as well as for lip augmentation.

HOW PERLANE WORKS WORKS

Perlane gel is injected into the skin with an ultra fine needle. Perlane's larger particles can reach deeper into skin tissue which makes it ideal for volumizing and lifting. Perlane is used to create fuller lips (lip augmentation) and to fill deeper facial folds. Injections are relatively painless, however, topical anaesthetics may be applied and even nerve blocks administered for complete comfort, if warranted.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR PERLANE

Because Perlane is a non-animal hyaluronic acid, there is little risk of an allergic reaction. However, Perlane should not be used in candidates with a history of severe allergies manifested by history of anaphylaxis or by people with a history of multiple severe allergies. It should be avoided by pregnant women. Patients who are using blood thinning medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Your health care provider will thoroughly discuss your particular situation prior to treatment.
